Merchant Navy
The merchant marine encompasses commercial shipping, maritime transport and the operation of merchant vessels, from container ships and tankers to bulk carriers, roll-on/roll-off vessels and ferries. This technical documentation covers voyage planning, professional navigation, ECDIS, ENC, maritime regulations, SOLAS, GMDSS, communications, tides, currents and onboard safety. It supports navigation in the English Channel and North Sea, around ports such as Dunkirk, Le Havre, Rotterdam and Antwerp, as well as in the Bay of Biscay, Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. Charts and publications from SHOM, ADMIRALTY and national hydrographic offices provide information adapted to different maritime areas. Merchant shipping also requires Sailing Directions, Notices to Mariners, List of Lights, List of Radio Signals and regulatory publications used to plan and monitor national and international commercial shipping routes.
