Navigation aid memo rule
A navigation aid memo rule is a quick-reference tool for understanding vessel lights, collision regulations and maritime or inland-waterway buoyage. Designed to make visual signals easier to interpret, it helps recreational sailors, crew members and nautical students identify navigation situations without having to search through a full reference book. Depending on the model, a memo rule may show vessel light configurations, day shapes, sound signals, steering and sailing rules, the IALA buoyage systems for Regions A and B, or the signs and rules used under the European Code for Inland Waterways (CEVNI). Suitable for use at the chart table, on board or during training, this practical reference makes technical information easier to consult. It complements nautical charts and official regulations but does not replace the applicable rules or the navigator’s own assessment of the situation.
