SHC nautical chart Canadian great Lakes
The Canadian Great Lakes region, a vast inland sea stretching from Lake Superior to Lake Ontario, requires the highest standards of hydrographic accuracy due to variations in water levels, currents and complex rocky areas. The charts produced by the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS), established in 1883, are the official reference for this region. Nautic Way offers charts from the Canadian Hydrographic Service catalogue covering all scales, with detailed information on depths in metres, aids to navigation, coastline characteristics, hazards such as shoals, wrecks and drying rocks, as well as regulated areas. These charts are essential for leisure sailors, professional mariners—including commercial shipping, towing, fishing and offshore operators—and navigation schools. They are particularly valuable for approaches to the St. Lawrence River. The CHS is progressively shifting its production towards Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) while maintaining continuous updates through Notices to Mariners.
