Routeing charts
Routeing charts are specialized nautical charts designed for planning offshore and transoceanic navigation. They compile long-term meteorological and oceanographic data such as prevailing winds, ocean currents, sea state, storm-prone areas, seasonal ice limits, and climatic hazards. Mainly used before departure, they help navigators select the safest and most efficient routes according to the time of year. These charts are widely used by professional mariners, long-distance sailors, shipping companies, and maritime training schools. Although they do not replace official nautical charts or real-time weather information, routeing charts are an essential complementary tool for route optimization, enhanced safety, reduced passage time, and improved fuel efficiency.
