Marine Tableware for Boats: Plates, Bowls, Mugs and Dining Accessories

Tableware designed for meals on board

The marine tableware collection at Librairie Maritime Nautic Way brings together items for equipping the dining area of motorboats and sailing yachts. The range includes dinner plates, deep plates, dessert plates, bowls, small serving dishes, mugs, coffee cups with saucers, a salad bowl, a decorative tray and several bamboo storage accessories. Together, these items help organise meals on board while maintaining a maritime-inspired look.

Choosing tableware for a boat involves more than appearance. Weight, ease of storage, impact resistance and the intended conditions of use also matter. Melamine is valued for being lightweight and resistant to impact compared with traditional ceramic or glass tableware. It can therefore be a practical option for meals in an environment where movement and vibration may make handling objects more difficult.

The collection combines this practical approach with several nautical designs, including Marina, Newport, Coral Reef and South Pacific. Bamboo holders complete the range by providing storage for glasses, bottles and paper towels. These items help create a coordinated dining area on a sailing yacht, motorboat or in an interior inspired by the nautical world.

Plates and bowls for everyday meals

Plates and bowls form the basis of tableware on board. They need to accommodate everyday meals while remaining easy to handle and store in a boat's galley cupboards.

The collection includes several shapes and sizes:

• Round dinner plates: suitable for main courses and everyday meals.

• Round deep plates: useful for soups, pasta and dishes with sauce.

• Dessert plates: intended for desserts, fruit and smaller portions.

• Square dinner plates: an alternative shape for presenting meals.

• Breakfast bowls: suitable for breakfast, cereal and individual servings.

• Bowls and small serving dishes: useful for side dishes, snacks, desserts and smaller portions.

• Salad bowl: designed for serving salads and dishes to share.

The variety of formats makes it possible to assemble a service that suits the crew size and eating habits. For a family sailing trip, for example, dinner plates, deep plates, bowls and small dishes can cover most meals. For day trips, a smaller selection of versatile items may be sufficient.

Dimensions and specifications should be checked for each product. It is also useful to plan storage space and choose sizes that fit the cupboards and equipment available on board.

Melamine: lightweight and impact-resistant

Melamine is the main material used for several items in the collection. It is used to make lightweight tableware that resists impact, making it useful in environments where objects may be moved or subjected to vibration.

On a boat, movement on the water and crew activity can make handling tableware more challenging than on land. Melamine plates and bowls reduce the risk of breakage associated with fragile materials. Their light weight also makes them easier to carry and store, particularly where space is limited.

The collection offers several designs on light backgrounds, with styles inspired by the maritime world. This makes it possible to coordinate different pieces while maintaining a decorative table setting.

Impact resistance does not mean that the tableware is indestructible. A fall, deformation or unsuitable use can damage an item. Follow the care instructions and stop using any product that develops a crack or significant damage.

Melamine should not automatically be assumed to be microwave-safe. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for each item and do not heat a product in a microwave unless this use is expressly permitted.

Nautical designs for a coordinated table

The collection offers several decorative styles for personalising the dining area. Marina, Newport, Coral Reef and South Pacific provide a visual identity while remaining connected to the maritime world.

• Marina: a nautical design that can be used to coordinate available plates, bowls, small dishes and cups.

• Newport: an option for a classic nautical table setting, with several plate and bowl formats in the range.

• Coral Reef: a marine-inspired design available on selected tableware.

• South Pacific: a style that evokes ocean landscapes and distant destinations.

The possible combinations depend on which items are available in each design. Not every size or product type is necessarily offered across all ranges. Before assembling a complete service, check the available models, dimensions and matching pieces.

Coordinated tableware makes meals easier to present and helps create a welcoming atmosphere. On a boat, it can complement an interior featuring wood, white surfaces and shades of blue. On land, it also suits a holiday home, a coastal-style kitchen or a dining area dedicated to sailing.

Mugs, coffee cups and saucers

Hot drinks are part of everyday life on board, whether at breakfast, during a break while sailing or over a meal in harbour. The collection includes mugs as well as coffee cups with matching saucers, in several nautical designs.

Mugs are suitable for coffee, tea and other drinks. Cups with saucers offer a more traditional presentation for coffee served at the table. These formats make it possible to choose tableware according to personal habits.

When selecting items, consider capacity, dimensions and storage arrangements. Handles, shapes and the space available in cupboards can affect how easily cups and mugs can be handled on board.

Care instructions and any restrictions on use should be checked for each product. In particular, do not assume that all melamine items are microwave-safe. Following the manufacturer's recommendations helps preserve the materials and decorative finish.

A decorative tray featuring a nautical chart

The collection also includes a tray with a nautical-chart design. This accessory can be used to carry or present items and drinks while maintaining a visual connection with navigation.

Nautical charts are especially evocative for recreational sailors and hydrography enthusiasts. Their coastlines, annotations and cartographic conventions recall documents used to describe maritime areas. On a decorative tray, these features become a visual motif rather than a technical resource.

Shom and other hydrographic organisations, including Admiralty and NGA, are associated with nautical cartography. Their role concerns the production or distribution of hydrographic documents intended for navigation. However, a tray decorated with a chart does not replace an up-to-date nautical chart and must not be used for route planning or navigational decisions.

The tray can complement a nautical table setting or be used in a relaxation area. Follow the care instructions appropriate to the product's material and finish.

Bamboo storage accessories

The collection includes several bamboo accessories designed to organise the dining area. These include holders for two or four glasses, a holder for two bottles and a paper towel holder.

These accessories address practical needs in a galley, dining area or food-preparation space on board. Glass holders keep items grouped in a designated place. The bottle holder helps organise storage, while the paper towel holder keeps an everyday dining essential within easy reach.

The most suitable holder depends on the number of items to store and the space available. Check dimensions before planning its position, especially on a boat where storage is often limited.

Bamboo also adds a natural tone that works well with nautical designs. It can complement light-coloured tableware, blue patterns and wooden accessories. As with any storage item on board, check stability and do not assume that a tabletop holder is designed to withstand every condition encountered while sailing.

How to assemble a boat tableware set

When equipping a boat, start with the crew's habits and the number of people on board. The required quantity depends on the length of trips, how often meals are prepared on board and whether washing-up is possible during stops.

A versatile basic set may include:

• dinner plates for main courses;

• deep plates for soups and dishes with sauce;

• bowls for breakfast;

• small dishes for desserts and side dishes;

• mugs or coffee cups with saucers;

• a salad bowl for shared dishes;

• storage accessories suited to the available space.

For a short outing, a few versatile items may be sufficient. For a cruise lasting several days, it is helpful to plan meals and storage after use. Items should fit into cupboards without obstructing access to other equipment.

Choosing a consistent design is also useful if you want a coordinated tableware set. Availability varies by product, so check which items are offered before planning a complete collection.

Care and precautions

Care instructions vary according to the material and type of item. Some products are described as dishwasher-safe, but this feature should not be assumed to apply to the entire collection without checking.

To keep the tableware in good condition:

• check the manufacturer's instructions before first use;

• follow the stated dishwasher compatibility;

• do not use a microwave unless the item is explicitly approved for that purpose;

• avoid abrasive products that could damage the surface;

• inspect items regularly and stop using damaged pieces;

• store tableware securely when the boat is stationary and before setting off again.

Bamboo holders also require care suited to the material. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture and follow the product-specific instructions.

Conclusion

The marine tableware collection at Librairie Maritime Nautic Way includes plates, bowls, small serving dishes, mugs, coffee cups with saucers, a salad bowl, a tray featuring a nautical chart and bamboo storage accessories. Melamine is used for several pieces, combining low weight with impact resistance, while the Marina, Newport, Coral Reef and South Pacific designs bring a maritime identity to the table.

When choosing tableware for a boat, consider the number of people on board, the required formats, available storage space and care instructions. Storage accessories help organise the dining area. The collection therefore addresses the practical needs of meals on board while maintaining a decorative style inspired by the sea.
