Gateway Log
The Bridge Logbook is a nautical record used to document key events relating to navigation, ship handling and navigational watchkeeping on board. It can be used to record changes of course and heading, positions, weather and sea conditions, manoeuvres, watch handovers, navigation equipment tests, important communications, incidents and unusual situations occurring during a voyage. This record provides an essential means of maintaining traceability of bridge operations and may support safety inspections, audits and Port State Control activities. It is relevant to merchant ships, passenger ships, ferries, fishing vessels and other professional vessels operating in the English Channel, North Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea or Indian Ocean. A bridge logbook complements bridge procedures and the SOLAS requirements applicable to navigational safety, providing Masters and deck officers with a structured record of bridge activities and watchkeeping operations.
