This updated Garbage Record Book is to be used on board vessels to record descharges from ships and incinerations on board ships.

In accordance with regulation 10 of Annex V of the International Convention for the prevention of pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the protocol of 1978 (MARPOL), a record is to be kept of each descharge operation or completed incineration. This includes descharges into the sea, to reception facilities, or to other ships, as well as the accidental loss of garbage.

The updated rules shall enter into force on the 1 March 2018.
