This course, comprising two volumes and'a compendium, covers the requ'rements for hull structures at Initial, Annual, Intermed'ate, periodical'and Renewal'and'additional Surveys as s'ecified in the 1974 SOLAS Convention as amended up to its 1988 protocol'and in the 1966 l'ad Line Convention including its 1988 protocol. It d'es not cover preliminary design or plan approvals and metallurgical material "test" . Nor d'es it cover the survey or examination of chemical tankers and gas carriers other than citing inspection détails for annual surveys. s'ecial purpose ships or mobile off-shore units are not covered.

Those wishing to enter this course should hold'an appropriate qualification in naval'architecture of a certificate as chief engineer or hold'an equ'valent qualification and have experience in the structural survey, construction or repair of ships.
