Description détaillée

45-minute documentary DVD made on André Allegre, designer of the first trimaran winner of a transoceanic race: Eric Tabarly's Pen Duick IV, designed in Sète on his Etang de Thau boatyard.

This film, composed of interviews with André Allegre, Olivier de Kersauson, Francis Joyon, Jean Marie Vidal, Gerard Danson as well as archive footage of Eric Tabarly and Alain Colas, illustrates the visionary career of this naval architect , great land-clearer.

André Allegre

A graduate of Arts et Métiers in the 1950s, André ALLEGRE created, during his military service in Algiers, his first iconoclastic floating craft with three hulls with bipod rigs: CATALINA. Back in Sète, he sets up his workshop at a place called "la plagette" and continues to conceive of his fertile imagination trimarans.

It's all about, appendages, rotary wing masts, collapsible geometry, wet surface reduction. He designed the most innovative and fastest trimarans in the world. He was the only architect of the time to place two of his drawings on the first steps of the podium of the English transatlantic, Ostar 1972: PEN DUICK IV by Alain COLAS and CAP 33 by Jean Marie VIDAL.

Later the unfortunate adventure of the largest trimaran in the world, Grand Large TX10, 29.40 m, put him in financial difficulty as a result of the financial fiasco related to the sinking of this boat.

He was also a popularizer of the removable or folding trimarans: ALLEGRO, TRI ARTI, TRI STAR or TY PUNCH which revealed the multihull to many boaters.

In 2007, he enthusiastically presented his projects of the moment: a 35 m trimaran, LE FULGURAL, with 4 masts that would be equipped with levator planes (a kind of foils integrated into the shell structure), rings of saturn (kind of circular foils that fit totally into the floats) and a hull diamond tip.

He remained a visionary until the end of his life in 2008. André ALLEGRE was a great pioneer of ideas, his creative force allowed him to anticipate conceptual solutions while the techniques necessary for their realization were still stammering.
